Joanna is Clinical Lead and Senior Lecturer for the Couples Service in the Tavistock Clinic. She has an international reputation for her teaching and work helping couples with entrenched difficulties. She was the organising tutor of the professional doctorate programme at the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships and pioneered clinical services for couples under the National Health Service. She has lectured and published widely in the UK and been invited to lead training in Australia, Sweden, Germany and the USA. Her recent professional publications include: Second Time Round; Sharing a heart - the Dilemma of a fused couple, and Oedipus Gets Married.

Her short stories have appeared in journals and in collections published by The Women's Press, Littlewood. Lawrence & Wishart and Serpent's Tail. Two were winners in regional short story competitions - London Shoes in London and Building a Wall for Northern Regional Arts. She has co-edited two themed collections of stories for Serpent's Tail. With Campbell, Hallett & Palmer, Back Rubs - transitional tales by women. With the award-winning film maker, Kim Longinotto, Cheatin' Heart - women's stories about secrets, now distributed by Longstone Books.
She is currently working on a novel.
